Current Events

Tuesday May 13, 2008

It’s high time I share about my current circumstances since I’ve been putting if off. It’s due to procrastination more than anything else. :P

First of all, I have updated my pages on this blog. You can view them by accessing the tabs that are just below the header image (i.e. “About Me”)

Next, I have completed graduate school. The commencement ceremony was last Friday. Of course, all the students were privileged participants, but the rain was unbearable. Many students began to leave early - even before their respective departments were announced.

I left after the “School of Information and Library Science” was called to stand up and receive recognition and applause. My parents and I took pictures on campus the next day when the weather was much better.

In addition, I have been hired by the New York Public Library! The timing is great, since a full-time position is desired promptly after graduation. It’s because living in NYC is not cheap, and student loans are no longer available.

I will be working as a Reference Librarian at the Morrisania Branch in the Bronx.

I have more to say, but it can wait until next time. It’s time to go watch the DVDs that have been sitting on top of my TV…

A Special Day

Sunday March 2, 2008

Today’s my birthday!

I came home about an hour or so ago, and I’ve been out in the city since about 10am. It’s been a current “stream” of activity.

First, I went to a service at a church that I discovered through a good friend.  Everyone was friendly and down to earth. After service, we grabbed some Chinese food. We laughed easily and shared food with each other. For a traditionally shy person, it was nice to feel at ease with little effort.

I had to leave a bit early since I had plans to meet another good friend. So, I met her in front of a movie theater to watch “Atonement”!

The movie was good, and I didn’t waste my money. It was a great story, since it wasn’t a typical historical romance film. The ending was a surprise, which made it interesting.

However, I did enjoy “No Country for Old Men” a bit more. I think that I can enjoy thrilling action movies since I’m dying to know what happens next!

Then, my friend treated me to a… pedicure! I have never spent the $ to treat myself to one. I am clearly not a high maintenance girl. Finding a decent price for a haircut in New York was a bit of challenge as it is.

However, it was nice to choose a polish color, soak my feet in warm water, and chat with a friend. I had already had a busy morning and wanted to relax. I was definitely able to do so!

Finally, I was able to have Korean food for dinner at Gama.

The restaurant was in the East Village and not in Manhattan’s Koreatown. The food was tasty, depending on what was ordered. I had the Korean BBQ, which is always delicious. Sweet, savory and perfect with rice and side dishes!

Since it was a group of 8, we were seated in the middle, as shown in the photo above. I received a few text messages from g-friends back in California, during dinner. It was definitely a time when I wish they had been with me too!

LAST, but not least… we stopped by Ben and Jerry’s (3rd Ave), to have some dessert.

The picture of the ice cream cake above looks just like the mini-cake that I shared with my friends. Yum!

So, this was basically an overview of what my busy and fun birth-DAY was like. I had a nice time! Once again, thanks to all those who showed up or wished me a “happy birthday”!

Maybe next year, I’ll do something different! Something that I’m thinking of doing is to take a trip to an exotic/exciting locale! A place where swimming, warm sunlight and refreshing breezes are the norm!

SIBL

Saturday March 1, 2008

I decided to go to the Science, Industry and Business Library (SIBL) of the New York Public Library today.

SIBL

I had hoped that a quiet and professional atmosphere would help me focus on my schoolwork. I have quite a large amount of reading to do, in addition to assignments for all three of my classes.

However, it also became a place where I could think and reflect easily. All the other library users are occupied and most of them are quiet.

I have much to think about lately since I have decided to focus on the Lord. This decision has affected my life in multiple ways, and I will have to do my best to stick with this decision. Already, I am being challenged or doubtful, since this decision has caused me to change some important things in my life.

Listening to quality praise music and having no distractions such as the TV, has caused me to think in detail. I now realize that I will have to make earnest and deep effort to once again, place the Lord at the front and center.

May all of us who love the Lord pray for one another… I do have a few friends who have recently lost loved ones, such as a parent or grandparent. My heart goes out to them.

I think I will come here again. Even if I come to write in a journal or on this blog, it’s an ideal place to do so.

Have a great weekend!
